Why Printers Show Error Codes
Printers display error codes when something prevents them from completing a print job. The error might be related to hardware, software, connectivity, or consumables like ink and paper.
HP Printer Errors
Error 0x6100004a — Carriage Jam
The print carriage is stuck or obstructed.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the access door and check for paper jams or debris.
- Move the carriage manually — Gently slide it left and right to check for obstructions.
- Remove and reseat ink cartridges.
- Plug in and restart the printer.
Error 79 — Critical Firmware Error
A firmware or memory issue is preventing the printer from functioning.
- Turn off the printer and wait 30 seconds.
- Turn it back on — If the error reappears, update the firmware from HP's website.
- Clear the print queue — On Windows: Services > Print Spooler > Stop. Delete files in
