Android Error Codes — Fix the Most Common Issues
Common Android Error Types
Android errors can come from Google Play Store, system processes, network connectivity, or individual apps. Here is how to fix the most common ones.
Google Play Store Errors
Error 491 — Download or Update Failed
An issue with your Google account sync is preventing downloads.
- Clear Google Play Store cache — Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Storage > Clear Cache.
- Clear Google Play Services cache — Same steps for Google Play Services.
- Remove and re-add your Google account — Settings > Accounts > Google > Remove Account. Restart your phone and add the account again.
Error 927 — Download in Progress
Google Play Store is updating itself and cannot process your request.
- Wait a few minutes — The Play Store update should finish on its own.
- Clear Play Store cache if waiting does not help.
- Force stop Google Play Store — Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Force Stop.
Error 504 — App Could Not Be Downloaded
A problem with cache or conflicting accounts.
- Clear cache for Play Store and Google Play Services.
- Remove your Google account and re-add it.
- Check your storage — Make sure you have enough free space.
Error 920 — Unstable Connection
Your network connection is interrupting the download.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to test connectivity.
- Forget and reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.
- Clear Play Store cache and data.
- Use a VPN if your ISP might be throttling Google services — see our Best VPN picks.
System Errors
"Unfortunately, [App] Has Stopped"
A generic app crash error.
- Clear the app cache — Settings > Apps > [App Name] > Storage > Clear Cache.
- Clear app data — This resets the app to factory state (you may lose in-app data).
- Update the app — Check Google Play for updates.
- Uninstall and reinstall the app.
- Check for system updates — Settings > System > System Update.
"System UI Has Stopped" or "System UI Isn't Responding"
The Android interface itself has crashed.
- Restart your phone — This resolves the issue in most cases.
- Clear System UI cache — Settings > Apps > Show System Apps > System UI > Clear Cache.
- Boot into Safe Mode — Hold the power button, then long-press "Power Off" to enter Safe Mode. If the error does not appear, a third-party app is the cause.
- Factory reset as a last resort — Back up your data first.
"Process system isn't responding"
A core system process is hanging.
- Wait 30 seconds — Tap "Wait" instead of "Close" to give it time.
- Free up storage — Delete unused apps and files. Android needs at least 10 percent free space.
- Clear app cache for all apps — Settings > Storage > Cached Data > Clear.
- Check for malware — Install a trusted antivirus app. See our Best Antivirus recommendations.
Network Errors
"No Internet Connection" (When Connected to Wi-Fi)
- Toggle Airplane Mode on and off.
- Forget and reconnect to the Wi-Fi network.
- Reset network settings — Settings > System > Reset Options > Reset Wi-Fi, Mobile & Bluetooth.
- Check DNS settings — Try switching to Google DNS (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1) in your Wi-Fi settings.
- Restart your router.
"Authentication Error" on Wi-Fi
- Forget the network and re-enter the password carefully.
- Check MAC address filtering on your router.
- Change the network security type — Some devices have issues with WPA3. Try WPA2.
- Reset network settings on your phone.
Prevention Tips
- Keep your Android version and apps updated
